fibromyalgia clinical trial antiviralBack in September of last year, Dr. Pridgen was in the news saying he believes Fibromyalgia , other chronic pain conditions, chronic fatigue, and Gastrointestinal disorders are caused by the herpes simplex virus, the virus best known for causing cold sores.  There wasn’t much of a ruckus made about this, and rightly so, considering the scores of ME/CFS and fibromyalgia patients that have taken acyclovir, valtrex, valcyte, to no avail.

But something caught my eye.  By hitting the virus in 3 different stages of the viral life cycle, 90% of his patients responded to his therapy.  Jaded me to the wind, I looked forward to the study.

This trial is now officially recruiting:  Although it’s not listed on, Dr. Pridgen said in a separate announcement that he was throwing in a NSAID medication.  In fact the drug cocktail is property of the company co-founded by Pridgen, so none of the drug names are publicized.  This makes it difficult for busybodies like myself to speculate.

Personally I find the addition of a NSAID to the fray a lot more interesting than yet another standalone antiviral.  As the momentum in ME/CFS and fibromyalgia circles shifts more toward “autoimmune with a virus”, I hope to expect to see a lot more clinical trials designed like this.
